Club News January 2012

January seems to have flown by, it was good to be able to shoot through the month without having to travel to other clubs too.
The moving of exam tables didn't happen apart from one week which I'd like to thank you all for helping move and replace them back.
This month we have the EGM (4th) regarding a proposed outdoor venue change, so please if you can, be there for the start.
A few bouncers have been had on a couple of the layered bosses lately, so myself and Pete will be sorting these out prior to the EGM.
I would like to ask if anyone has anything they would like to mention in club news please bring it to my attention and I will include it.

So here are the details of all that went on in January:

January Club Records
Well done to all who set a new record.

U16's Gents Recurve
Alex Kirk - L&R 300
Matthew Greedy- Frostbite
U14's Ladies Recurve
Isobel Glover - Frostbite
U18's Ladies Recurve
Amy Curnock- L&R 300 - Frostbite - Bray I (a record that's stood since 2004)

Indoor League
This month seen 21 archers enter scores with 3 archers smashing their PB's and taking the first 3 spots.
Its getting tight at the top with only 6 points separating the top 5 places with two months to go its all to play for as the top 3 has been different every month so far.
Young Isobel on our first week back after Christmas put in a great new PB to take 3rd place and her first points.
Another young lady Mary Brooks beat her PB by over 100 points and as such takes first place and maximum 12 points.
Not to be out done Mick Ward shot a PB too for 10 points which moves him into 5th place, this with only shooting two rounds.
Ben managed a couple of points which keeps him at the top, but will the pressure take its toll. Only time will tell.
Remember its the first Portsmouth score you shoot in the month that is used for the league.

Monthly Cup
This month we shot the Bray I round, a nice short round.
Some great scores were had and I'm pleased to say 4 of you shot possible EMAS records that will need verifying. The 4 are Ben, Alex, Amy and Nigel.
Ben manages to win again so keeps hold of the Junior cup, whilst Mick Ward takes overall first place and the senior cup. Well done to you both.
February will be a 3 spot fita 25

Progress Awards
I got behind on the progress awards but this month I got it all sorted.
Ben Johnstone managed to get his White Black and Blue badges over the past 2 months, well done.

L&R 300
After the Christmas break we see the L&R return, Ben shot this for his first time and did very well.
The rest of you just astonish me every time I input your scores, this month sees another 6 PB's shot.
Amy and Alex put in scores I can only dream about scoring, certainly making it hard for the others trying to catch you in your categories.
A big well done only two months left to go.
As soon as I have January results from Mel they will be added.
For the latest L&R300 positions and organisers report.

Chairman's Cup Part 2
A big thank you to all the archers who took part in this. I don't think you can appreciate how hard this round is untill your a dozen or so arrows in and loose all feeling in your fingers.
Having said that the weather was great, perfect conditions bright clear sunny skies with a nice hard frost.
This resulted in a few club records being broken and plenty of PB's were had.
At the end it was so nice to took into some nice hot soup made by Jayne and Christine and in between ends Fenella spoilt us with home made Muffins and Flap Jacks. I would like to thank all 3 of you for your hard work.
Final Chairmans cup results will be announced at the AGM and presentation night in April.

Archery GB January Challenge
This is our first entry into this postal comp, I'm in the process of sorting it all out and will let you all know when the results are published.

Local Competitions
On the 8th myself Nigel Pete and Jayne travelled to Welland AC to take part in their fita 18 comp.
This was not one of our strongest results but Nigel was still our star archer in 14th place.
This forms the 3rd round of the Foxes Triple and Nigel finished a very respectable 7th with Pete 10th myself 13 all 3 of us better than the previous year.
At the end of the month I decided to have the bright idea of travelling to Daventry to take part in the Duston Triple, my challenge was just to shoot all 3 rounds (15 dozen plus sighters). The results have not been published as yet and I will be surprised if I'm not the one propping up the rest from the bottom of the results page. This shoot is well run and the sponsors even had a stall there. I will do it again next year, even if its only for the free tea/coffee and biscuits.
This weekend sees the Indoor county championships at Braunstone Leisure Centre, this will be the most archers that have entered from Melton so good luck to you all.
If you want to see for yourself what a archery competition is all about why not come along and see - there is no charge and you'll see some of us in action as MMAC archers are in all three sessions
